Indiana Basketball: 2019-20 Big Ten Opponents Announced

Substantial insight was gained today with regard to Indiana’s 2019-20 Big Ten basketball schedule.

Once again the Hoosiers will play 20 league games and will meet six of the conference’s 14 teams one time.

Here are the opponents according to the IU basketball program via Twitter:

Dates/Times to come at a later date.

Overall it appears to be a fairly favorable schedule.

The clear good news is that Indiana will only play likely league favorite Michigan State one time, in Bloomington.  Iowa is another team that is expected to be good next year that IU will only see once at home.  Northwestern is a clear bottom third team that IU will only face in Bloomington.

It’s a mixed bag with the away only opponents.  Illinois should be improved and is probably more of a middle of the pack type of team next year.  Michigan is in a state of flux right now with several of its top players having declared for the NBA — but still eligible to return.  Landing Rutgers as one of the away-only opponents can only be viewed as a favorable outcome.

Most of Indiana’s home and away opponents are good but not elite teams.

As is intended to be the case in all seasons going forward, IU and Purdue will meet twice in 2019-20.

The dates and times for these games will be announced at a later time.

Via the Big Ten, here are the opponents for every team in the league:
