Indiana Baseball Survives Elimination Game, Advances to Play Texas A&M Sunday

Indiana starting pitcher Pauly Milto has had a knack for delivering dominant starts for the Hoosiers at critical junctures during the 2018 season.  There was no more critical juncture than a NCAA Tournament elimination game for Indiana, and their ace came through once again.

With the season hanging in the balance, Milto threw his second complete game shutout of the season, compiling a career high 11 strikeouts in the process.  The complete game against Texas Southern was critical for an Indiana bullpen that was forced into extensive action on Friday and potentially has a long day in front of it on Sunday.

Yesterday against Texas A&M, it was a 2-out rally in the top of the 4th that did in Indiana.  Today, the top of the 4th was more friendly to the Hoosiers.  IU strung together a walk and 3 extra base hits, all with 2-outs, to plate three runs.

The Hoosiers tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th and 1 in the 8th to set the final margin at 6-0.  Four Hoosiers had 2 hits on the day including Matt Gorski, Ryan Fineman, Justin Walker and Scotty Bradley.  Fineman hit a solo homer and drove in 2 runs.  Logan Sowers, Walker, Bradley and Jeremy Houston also drove in a run.

Indiana advances to play in another elimination game on Sunday at the Austin Regional.  They will Texas A&M at 3:00 PM EST.  The Aggies lost to Texas on Saturday night.  If the Hoosiers were to win that contest, they would play again on Sunday night at 9:00 against Texas.
