Hoosiers in the NBA — 2018-19 Stats Through October

The 2018-19 NBA season is now well underway, and eight former IU basketball stars are back at it.  We will be monitoring their seasons with monthly updates.

Below we summarize their performance through the end of October.

    OG Anunoby – Toronto

Anunoby is off to a good start statistically but he has now missed several games in a row due to “personal reasons.”

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 5/1

    MPG – 24.2 (career high)
    Points – 7.2 (career high)
    Rebounds – 3.4 (career high)
    Assists – .6
    Blocks – .4 (career high)
    Steals – .6
    FG% – .455
    3FG% – .333
    FT% – N/A

    Thomas Bryant – Washington

    Photo of Thomas Bryant

Bryant is healthy but so far playing time has been limited at his new home in Washington.  He had a strong showing with 7 points, 3 rebounds in 11 minutes of time against the Clippers.  After spending most of last season in the G-League, his career is still trending in the right direction.

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 2/0

    MPG – 10.0 (career high)
    Points – 6.5 (career high)
    Rebounds – 3.5 (career high)
    Assists – .5 (career high)
    Blocks – N/A
    Steals – N/A
    FG% – .333
    3FG% – .000
    FT% – 1.000 (career high)

    Yogi Ferrell – Sacramento

Ferrell has a new contract and a new home in Sacramento.  He’s still carving out his role there, but as we have seen with Ferrell wherever he has been, it seems like a near certainty that he will be a key contributor for the Kings.

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 7/2

    MPG – 17.6
    Points – 7.0
    Rebounds – 1.6
    Assists – .7
    Blocks – .1
    Steals – .6
    FG% – .447 (career high)
    3FG% – .357
    FT% – 1.000 (career high)

    Eric Gordon – Houston

The Rockets are a surprise disappointment in the early going thus far, and there is no denying that Gordon’s slow start is playing a role.  The former Hoosier appears to be trying to make up for the slump with more hustle plays, with higher numbers in rebounds and blocked shots.

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 6/4

    MPG – 33
    Points – 14.0
    Rebounds – 3.8 (career high)
    Assists – 1.5
    Blocks – .8 (career high)
    Steals – .3
    FG% – .306
    3FG% – .234
    FT% – .867

    Victor Oladipo – Indiana

After becoming an NBA All-Star last season, Victor Oladipo is still finding ways to build off that breakout season with early new career highs in a few categories through eight games.

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 8/8
    Points – 22.0
    Rebounds – 5.9 (career high)
    Assists – 4.4 (career high)
    Blocks – .4
    Steals – 1.5
    FG% – .479 (career high)
    3FG% – .413 (career high)
    FT% – .548

    Noah Vonleh – New York

    Photo of Noah Vonleh

So far so good in Vonleh’s new home in New York.  Still just 23 years old, the one-and-done Hoosiers seems energized with the Knicks in the early going with across-the-board career highs.  He has one of the better rebounds-per-minutes stat lines in the league.

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 8/3

    MPG – 21.1 (career high)
    Points – 8.4 (career high)
    Rebounds – 8.5 (career high)
    Assists – 2.1 (career high)
    Blocks – 1.0 (career high)
    Steals – .8 (career high)
    FG% – .564 (career high)
    3FG% – .400 (career high)
    FT% – .750 (career high)

    Troy Williams – Sacramento

Very few players in the league have a career that epitomizes the highs and lows of the business side of the NBA.  Williams started the season with New Orleans but was a late cut.  He has now found a new home with his former IU teammate Yogi Ferrell in Sacramento.  That now makes five NBA franchises that he has been with in just over two seasons.

Almost on cue with his up and down career, Williams played 33 minutes and scored 12 points on October 30 — and then sprained his ankle.

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 2/0

    MPG – 23.0 (career high)
    Points – 7.5 (career high)
Rebounds – 3.0 (ties career high)
Assists – .5 (tied, career high)
    Blocks – 1.0 (career high)
    Steals – .5
    FG% – .600 (career high)
    3FG% – .500 (career high)
    FT% – N/A

    Cody Zeller – Charlotte

After struggling with knee issues for much of last season, Zeller is off to a good start in his sixth season in Charlotte.

    2018-19 YTD Stats:

    Games/Games Started – 8/8

    MPG – 22.0
    Points – 9.6
    Rebounds – 5.8
    Assists – 1.5
    Blocks – .6
    Steals – .6
    FG% – .612 (career high)
    3FG% – .333
    FT% – 1.000 (career high)
