Watch as IU women’s basketball’s Yarden Garzon sat down with Ann Bastianelli on the Hoosiers Connect podcast. The 6-foot-3 Garzon started all 32 games for IU as a sophomore in 2023-24.  She averaged 11.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists and shot 44.9 percent from the floor. Garzon was the team’s second-best 3-point shooter as she knocked down 62 shots from long range on the season and made 42.2 percent from beyond the arc. IU football tight end Zach Horton joined the Hoosiers Connect podcast with Galen Clavio and Colin Hartman. Horton transferred from James Madison to IU in December. The 6-foot-4 and 254-pound Horton contributed 266 yards receiving and six touchdowns for JMU in 2023. He earned a spot on the All-Sun Belt First Team Offense. The junior entered the transfer portal with 39 receptions, 425 yards and eight touchdowns for his career. The former IU star was introduced by legendary NBA coach and executive Pat Riley.  IU coach Mike Woodson was in Miami today and attended the press conference. Former IU basketball consensus first-team All-American Trayce Jackson-Davis  is one of fifteen athletes who have been named to the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s Select Team that will train with the USA Basketball Men’s National Team as they prepare for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The USA Select Team features a roster of 12 current NBA or NBA G League players; two players with NBA, NBA G League, international and USA Basketball experience; and one incoming college freshman with USA Basketball experience. The Miami Heat selected former IU center Kel’el Ware in the first round (15th overall) in the 2024 NBA Draft. Ware will wear number 7 for Miami. The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that 1,695 students on varsity rosters have earned the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award. The list includes students from all 14 institutions plus Johns Hopkins and Notre Dame and 38 different sports who have recorded a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year.  The 2023-24 class of Distinguished Scholar Award recipients includes 385 students who maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the previous academic term. “IU Athletics takes great pride in supporting our student’s opportunities to succeed at the highest level, and that includes in the classroom,” said…

When Kelel Ware’s name is called this week, it will be the the third time in two years a former IU basketball player has been chosen in the NBA Draft. And when Ware is chosen it will be the first time since 2014 that former Hoosiers were drafted in consecutive years. IU women’s basketball coach Teri Moren and Team USA Basketball have at least one thing in common. They just win. And with Moren leading the way, the U18 National Team claimed an 80-69 win over Canada in the championship game at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup on Sunday night. The squad breezed through group play with convincing victories over Brazil (97-51), Puerto Rico (102-22) and Mexico (116-20). They also secured a semifinal win versus Dominican Republic (125-27) and in the quarterfinals against Argentina (109-32).
