I keep getting questions about the Marquette game. What happened to that team? We’re 18 games into the season folks. That game was an outlier. It’s within the realm of possible, but nothing you should be expecting as the norm. We all knew this stretch of games was going to be difficult. But four game losing streaks are never easy to digest in Bloomington. The spectrum of emotions is running from believing that this team will turn things around to silliness about coaching changes. For those of us at least willing to be reasonable here, you look on the bright side,…

The last name of Indiana’s offensive coordinator won’t change much, but the Hoosiers certainly went a long way to find Kalen DeBoer, the new leader of the offensive unit. Fresno, California to be precise. Now the question becomes — how much will the Hoosier offense change as the program moves on from the recently retired Mike DeBord. If history is any indicator, the Indiana attack is about to take a big step forward under DeBoer. DeBoer inherited a Fresno State offensive unit ranked 122nd nationally in total offense in 2016. The Bulldogs improved to 40th in 2017 and 24th in…
An all-time great in the history of the Indiana University men’s basketball program passed away on Sunday. Among several notable accomplishments, the legendary Jimmy Rayl holds a Hoosier record that has stood for more than 55 years — and he did it twice. Rayl is perhaps best known for his two 56-point games during the 1962 and 1963 seasons. The IU Hall of Fame inductee was an All-American and first team All-Big Ten selction. Jimmy Rayl was 77. Here is the full release from the school: IU Basketball Mourns The Loss of Jimmy Rayl Former two-time Indiana University All-American Jimmy…
Here we go again. Insert broken record commentary about slow starts and poor free throw shooting here. Seriously, you could almost write these stories before the game is played right now. It was the same story in the game and the same result at the end — another loss for Indiana. At this point in the season, it starts to become apparent that you are who you are. For IU, who they are is not who many thought they would be at this point in a once promising season. The Hoosiers dropped their fourth straight game in league play and…

Rapid reaction from Indiana at Purdue. Check back later for The Report Card. The suffering continues. A once promising season is now officially spiraling out of control. Indiana lost on the road to Purdue on Saturday afternoon for their fourth straight loss. Indiana falls to 12-6 overall and 3-4 in Big Ten play. The Hoosiers will play at Northwestern on Tuesday night. THREE KEYS TO THE GAME 1. Across the board poor shooting. You know about the free throw shooting. It was dreadful, with Indiana going 7 for 18 from the stripe and continuously crushing any hope of a rally. …
Just another game? Biggest game of the year? It depends on who you ask. While they don’t agree on much, IU and Purdue fans generally agree that their basketball series is kind of a big deal. When it comes to the players, there has always been a little more nuance. Some of the players are not from Indiana, and other members of the rival teams are actually friends (Gasp!). Purdue All-American guard Carsen Edwards gave an interview on the Big Ten Network yesterday with host Mike Hall. During their discussion, Hall asked the Texas native about what he expected from…
Football Scoop is reporting that Fresno State offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer will assume the same role at Indiana. DeBoer was included in The Daily Hoosier’s offensive coordinator hot board, where we said this about him as a potential replacement for Mike DeBord: Kalen DeBoer (Fresno State OC) – DeBoer is a respected up and coming coach whose offense was 24th in the nation in scoring at 34.6 per game. But can you imagine the reaction to his last name? Apparently Hoosier fans will just have to look past DeBoer’s name being so similar to the man that he is replacing, and someone…
