If you are simultaneously feeling excited about No. 21 Indiana’s 12-2 start while perhaps also a bit apprehensive about the possibility that the Hoosiers aren’t that good, fear not. We are about to find out the truth here.  Will the real Hoosiers please stand up. It isn’t that the Hoosiers are untested.  Indiana has faced seven top 60 teams according to the KenPom.com rankings.  IU is 5-2 in those contests. But Indiana hasn’t seen anything like this. Yes there are seven more top 60 teams (including five top 20) coming up in the next eight games.  That would be challenging…

Many had expected that a decision would have been reached by now. Put us in that camp. Perhaps class of 2019 five-star Keion Brooks, Jr. has, for all practical intents and purposes, made his decision.  But with a hectic travel schedule over the last month that has included trips to Hawaii, South Dakota and West Virginia, there has been little time to put the finishing touches on that choice and make a formal announcement. Brooks, Jr. moved away from his family this year to attend La Lumiere in LaPorte, Indiana, which likely makes it more difficult to consult with those…

Indiana returned to action on Thursday night after a prolonged holiday break.  Despite the rest, their habits from 2018 remain fully intact. But so are the Hoosiers’ winning ways. IU is on a seven game winning streak, marking their longest such run since the 2015-16 season when they reeled off 12 in a row on their way to an outright Big Ten title.  The Hoosiers are also 3-0 in the Big Ten for the first team since that season. Yet another slow start resulted in a 25-15 first half deficit against Illinois.  The Hoosiers are no stranger to slow starts,…

Eleven days off didn’t change much. The broken record plays on, as Indiana once again falls behind early, only to flip the script and pull away from Illinois as Big Ten play restarts. The Illini were able to make it interesting late, but a 47-25 run by Indiana after falling behind by 10 was too much to overcome. Indiana moves to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers will play at Michigan on Sunday at 4:30 eastern.  That would appear to be a game where Indiana would be unable to recover from a big early deficit. See…

Indiana basketball is back.  Finally. But not everyone is back.  After 11 days off, the Hoosiers will resume Big Ten play on Thursday night without starting point guard Rob Phinisee.  The freshman suffered a concussion on December 19th against Central Arkansas and has not returned to practice since. It is an inopportune time for IU to be without its starting point guard, as they face an Illinois team that likes to play aggressive pressure defense.  Already without significant guard depth, Indiana head coach Archie Miller referred to the Hoosiers ability to handle the Illini pressure as the “story of the…
