Kentucky transfer wing Adou Thiero named Indiana to his final five schools on Friday, according to a report by Jeff Borzello of ESPN. Indiana joins Pittsburgh, Arkansas, Kentucky and North Carolina as Thiero’s finalists. The odds seem to be a bit stacked against the Hoosiers, with hometown Pitt involved, along with a possible return to Kentucky or the potential to follow John Calipari to Arkansas.  Thiero did enter the transfer portal more than a week before Calipari left Kentucky for Arkansas, and IU was in contact right away. Soon after Indiana landed Arizona center Oumar Ballo, another post prospect considering the Hoosiers removed IU from his list of contenders. Kentucky, Mississippi State, and St. John’s are the final schools for Drexel center Amari Williams, according to multiple Thursday evening reports. Williams was scheduled to visit Indiana this weekend. Stanford guard Kanaan Carlyle is still expected on campus beginning Friday, and Grace College center Elijah Malone completed his visit on Thursday.  Indiana appears to still be a solid contender for both Carlyle and Malone. Indiana picked up a commitment from class of 2025 defensive back Byron Baldwin on Wednesday afternoon. Baldwin announced his verbal commitment on his social media accounts.  He took a visit to IU in late March. A Baltimore, Md. product, Baldwin attends Calvert Hall College, where he produced 89 tackles, two interceptions, four pass break-ups, and two forced fumbles as a junior. Even during transfer portal mania, Indiana is keeping its eye on the high school ranks. Earlier this week the Hoosiers offered class of 2026 6-foot-6 wing Manny Green. Playing for Cedar Grove H.S. in Ellenwood, Ga., Green averaged 17.6 points per game as a sophomore according to MaxPreps.  He earned Class 3A North All-State recognition. Indiana added a versatile athlete to its 2025 recruiting class on Tuesday. Wisconsin-based Blake Thiry announced his commitment to the Hoosiers on his social media accounts. Thiry could play multiple roles for the Hoosiers.  He plays running back, wide receiver, tight end and linebacker and is also a nationally rated long snapper at Prairie Du Chien H.S. in Prairie Du Chien, Wis.  He is most likely to play tight end at the next level. Mike Woodson has his big fella for the 2024-25 season. Arizona transfer 7-foot center Oumar Ballo has announced he will attend Indiana for his final season of college basketball. At 7-foot and 260 pounds, Ballo was one of the best centers in the country this past season at Arizona. He averaged a double-double with 12.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game while leading the Wildcats to the Sweet 16. Indiana lost both a quarterback and receiver on Tuesday morning as the college football transfer portal reopened. The Hoosiers had three young quarterbacks with at least three years of eligibility remaining, and all of them appear to be waiting in the wings behind veteran Kurtis Rourke this season. So it wasn’t going to come as a surprise to see one of them leave via the portal. Bloomington native Connor Hickman decided against playing his final season of college basketball at Indiana. The day after a visit to Bloomington, Hickman announced he is transferring to Cincinnati. A guard from Bradley, Hickman was thought to be down to IU and Cincinnati.  He visited Cincinnati on Monday. Indiana got a commitment on Saturday from Washington State transfer guard Myles Rice.  Their main guard targets at this point appear to be Kanaan Carlyle of Stanford and Ryan Conwell of Indiana State.  This development might increase IU’s focus on Leland Walker of Eastern Kentucky, and Connor Essegian of Wisconsin.
